In 1996, I modelled a range of wall-mounted heads in Chavant wax by working from my own photos of historical artefacts in museums or from books. I cast them in Acrylic Plaster Polymer using rubber moulds. These new versions are 3D printed with PLA filament*. They can be coloured using wood stains, but if painted a spray acrylic primer must be used first.

Boudica
Height 134mm; Matte Green and Red Granite; 67g
The portrait is taken from a surviving fragment of a 1st century BCE bronze cauldron, possibly buried as a votive offering, that was discovered in the village of Rynkeby on the island of Funen in Denmark. It is now in the National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen. The title 'Boudica' is given solely as a reference marker. There is a brief commentary on the figure here: Rynkeby Cauldron
Celtic Warrior
Height 169mm; Matte Green and Red Granite; 62g
The original head, just 40mm high, is a copper alloy handle-mount on the Aylesford bucket in the British Museum, London, UK, most likely dating from the late 1st century BCE. The disks may represent a late form of a leaf-crown. Details on the original can be found here: Aylesford Bucket
Sanni Kegniba
Height: 160mm; Matte Charcoal and Oak-stained Red Granite; 72g
The title is drawn from a song by the Malian musician Salif Keita, 'Sanni Kegniba' (Sanni the Beautiful)**. The decorative details of the face and hair are drawn from West African sculpture, particularly Benin metalwork from Nigeria. An informative article on the background of the Benin bronzes can be found here: Benin
Gothic Mask
Height: 165mm; Matte Charcoal and Red Granite; 76g
The original mask (height: 235mm), was made in clay, and cast in both plaster and lead in 1985. The lead casting was full of holes as the mould was still damp! It was eventually restored and scanned.
