The teddy bear behind bars is one of those odd items you might find on any street in any town. I've shot window bears before, but this one appeared to be quite desperate. I suppose that's due to the contrast with the bars that hold it back, and to the slightly menacing expression of the front door below. You would not want to allow a child into this building!
At least part of the impact of these shots is due to using a reversed lens and to the contrasts between light and dark. If you want to create a spooky atmosphere you can, even when a colour shot of the same subject might appear quite benign. The camera always lies, and to the precise degree that the photographer chooses.
