Small Tree

An orange filter can raise the dramatic temperature of a black and white image by increasing the contrast. To the eye, the clouds seemed more uniformly grey but the filter helps accentuate the lower layers of rain-bearing cloud. I was surprised to discover that this is in fact a tree, but one beaten down by wind and grazed by animals until little more than a protective cap remained.

Enclosure

Stone walls act as a barrier, keeping animals inside or out as required by the season. This line of stonework between pasture and mountain is built from the rocky outcrops of the limestone wilderness beyond. The dry-stone wall may be extremely old, but it has also been kept in a very good state of repair so it must still serve an important function.
