I've had an interest in ecology and the environment since I went to live on Dorinish Island in County Mayo, Ireland, in the early seventies. Concerns about pollution and the destruction of natural habitat are widely shared, but there are frequent reminders that not everyone has as much regard for the planet we live on or for the wildlife that might be affected by vandalism.

Wreck 2

Taking a car up into the mountains, trashing it, and burning it out are things I might easily have done in the worst moments of my ignorant childishness. I never did, so I don't have that kind of negative memory to look back on, but from time to time there are others still doing it now. The failures of education that these acts imply are too numerous to mention.
