Cardiff has its own hotspots of creativity and the Third Floor Gallery of photography is one of them. The opening night of a new exhibition is often scheduled with events, in this case the Cardiff Life Model Collective replicating some of the poses of the photos on display. At times, the apparent indifference of the gallery visitors was quite amusing.
This was shot was taken with a simple meniscus lens in a simple wooden box with a film holder on the back. Appropriate for jazz, perhaps, with the Arek Mazurek Quartet playing one evening at the gallery. A slow shutter speed and a burst of flash gives sharpness and blur in equal measure while the reversed lens bleeds the focus towards the edges of the frame.
