The Punisher

I was not about to imitate Joni Sternbach by taking a large format camera down to the beach to make tintypes, but I was impressed with her images and recognised the potential of the subject matter. The Rolleiflex is much more my style, partly because of the square format. The square is a constraint and you need to think very carefully about filling the frame; it is a stimulating challenge in composing.

Bristol Siren

How do folks feel when a stranger comes up and asks them to pose for a photo? I don't know, I've never asked about that. But I have to say that while the surfers were in a hurry to get on with their day, they were also a pleasure to talk to for the few minutes necessary. Rhossili beach on the Gower Peninsula is a great venue and a top spot for surfers.
